Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process used to adjust your website so that your site will display in the search engine results. Search engine optimization does not guarantee placement and it often takes 4-6 months for new sites to be indexed in Google and a year to get out of the "sandbox" since Google favors sites that have been live longer. Therefore, you need to think of SEO as a long term investment.
However, in time, SEO will be the most highly cost effective marketing investment you make allowing you to meet your traffic goals while decreasing dependence on other advertising.
Search engine optimization requires you to make changes to your website so that the target keyword phrases appear in the text and in other key elements on pages of your website, ideally including, but not limited to, the URL (the address of the actual web page), the Title tag of the page and throughout the text of your page. While we modify the META tags, including the description and keyword tags, the major search engines do not use them to determine your ranking. However, some search engines do use the description tag in the actual search engine results.
You start by using SEO techniques to copyright your current pages. We generally optimize individual web pages for one or two highly relevant, related keyword phrases.
Changes to the structure of your website may need to be made to make it search engine friendly. In particular, if you have frames or Flash images with very little text on your site, you will not achieve the traffic you desire.
