Pat McCormick, Founding Partner
Network Alternatives

Success Stories: A series of interviews with successful business professionals and small business entrepreneurs.

Pat McCormick, founding partner, Network Alternatives

Pat McCormick is a founding partner of Philadelphia-based Network Alternatives, Inc, a Hosted Solutions Provider delivering full-service technology outsourcing services. Pat received a MBA from La Salle University, and has more than 25 years of business experience. Pat and his two founding partners started Network Alternatives in 1999.

What’s the key reason you’ve been an entrepreneurial success?

Pat: Strong and loyal business and professional relationships are key. I believe people see me as a person of integrity. That reputation was very meaningful when we were looking for investors and bankers.

I also possess the ability to adapt and reinvent when external market/economic conditions require it. We had to adjust our mission when the technology sector plummeted. Diversification into service offerings not previously targeted was imperative to survival and success.

What one piece of advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur?

Pat: Stay true to the qualities and business styles that brought you your success to date. Don’t let the increased personal risks of entrepreneurship change your approach. Your good business sense will serve you well––let it continue to develop and grow, but don’t allow the new situation to cause you to question or doubt it.

Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

Pat: Well, nothing is ever perfect, but I’m not sure there is anything significant that I would have done differently. (At least nothing I can admit to!). I am sure I could have done a better job of leveraging business and personal relationships for counsel and advice, and for direct business benefit.
