Promoting your business should be an on-going task. Your goal is to keep your company in the minds of your customers. Promoting your business doesn't have to be an expensive proposition, there are five simple, inexpensive things you can do to generate new customers and reassure your existing customers know that you are still around and ready to service their needs:
1. Create A Website. A small website is a great promotional vehicle for your business. If your budget and skills are limited, many free webhosting companies offer web space and website building templates for the novice webmaster. Most free web hosting sites will require your site to include an advertising banner of theirs on your site but for a nominal fee, you can upgrade to an advertising-free package. Compare the different web hosting companies and find one that fits your needs. Look for easy to use templates, email forwarding, technical support through tutorials or forums, and optional upgrades that you may need later on.
2. Start an opt-in newsletter. Another great way to keep your customers interested in what you have to offer is a monthly newsletter. A monthly subscriber newsletter containing 'members only' specials and deals will keep your business in your customer's mind.
3. Give to your community. Support your local community and schools by supporting their fundraising efforts. If you can donate some products or services, you will receive some great exposure in return. Take advantage of their targeted marketing and advertising opportunities such as newsletters and directories. This type of advertising results in keeping your company name in your own community.
4. Host or sponsor a charitable event. Having your company name associated with a charity will increase your exposure. Pick a charity that is close to your heart and host a small charitable event. Contact your business neighbors and host an event in your business community. Free hamburgers and hotdogs barbeques are great for attracting people and donations. Be sure to advertise your event and the charity you are donating the money to. Don't forget to have some promotional pens and magnets on hand to give out at the event.
5. Become a member of a group. Networking groups and special interest groups are an effective way to get your company name circulating. Join groups that are complimentary to your business such as small business, networking, industry, or trade groups.
Promoting your business doesn't have to involve a lot of money, only a lot of smart thinking.
