Don’t Forget the Signage

It is unfortunate that people have a tendency to think that just because you are selling at a flea market, you are selling junk. If you are going to make a real money making business out of flea markets, you are going to have to overcome this perception. You must get people to take you seriously and a small investment in a professional display is an easy way to achieve this goal.

The next time you're at a farmer's market or flea market, take notice of the booths there. You’ll notice that some booths belong to people who are selling off their junk over the weekend. Their booths are nothing more than a bunch of cardboard boxes full of odds and ends. Other booths, however, have professional displays featuring signs with their company name on them, business cards, and brochures laid out on the table.

Let's say, for example, you're selling earrings that you've either purchased wholesale or made yourself. If you just lay them out on a piece of black cloth or, worse yet, place them bare table itself, you will look like a hobbyist. If you spend a few dollars for a professional looking display rack, however, you will look like you're running a store. Although new display racks can be expensive, you can often find them second hand. Look for department stores that are going out of business, remodeling or relocating. In these circumstances, display fixtures are often sold off cheaply or even just given away.

Your display racks and signage are at least as important as the goods you sell--that's what will get your customer's attention and draw them closer to your goods. Remember, you're just one small ten-foot booth among hundreds and it is extremely important for you to draw attention to yourself.
