Frequent business travelers often complain about long and inconsistent security wait times. According to the Business Travel Coalition, 68 percent of business travelers reported that they had to wait in line for ten minutes or more to get through routine security checkpoints, forcing frequent travelers to allot extra time for pre-flight check-in.

Thankfully, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration is in the process of rolling out a registered traveler program that will allow frequent travelers the opportunity to bypass airport security checkpoints.

Pilot programs were run in five airports––Minneapolis-St. Paul, Los Angeles, Houston Bush Intercontinental, Boston and Washington, D.C. The program required that participants submit biographical information and several items of biometric information—such as fingerprints––for pre-screening. Identity cards are then issued to eligible fliers.

Airports will decide on an individual basis whether or not they wish to participate in the registered traveler program. For more information on the program click here.
