Have you ever thought of opening a restaurant, but are waiting for that perfect idea? Pizza and burger joints can be found in abundance in any community. Why not try something new? The wrap.

Wraps have been growing in popularity since the mid-1990s. A wrap is essentially a sandwich that uses a flour tortilla or flat bread instead of traditional bread. The end product looks something like a burrito that has been cut in half.

Wraps serve as fast portable food for the health conscious. The contents of a wrap are limited only by the creativity of the person making it, but are typically ingredients that appeal to healthy eaters. Wrap restaurants often offer other products related to the “healthy eating” movement, such as smoothies, to complement their sandwiches.

If you have no experience owning or operating a restaurant, then you have your work cut out for you. Running a successful restaurant is no small feat. The hours are long and the initial investment is high. Your start up investment will vary depending on your location and constructions costs. If you have a lot of capital, you may build the restaurant from scratch. Before you build, make sure to consider any equipment you'll need to meet regulatory requirements - your restaurant will have to be licensed and up to code with your county’s departments of health and inspections. You can save money by renting a space that was formerly occupied by a restaurant. Many times, you can find a spot where most of the equipment you need is already there.

You will also need working capital to pay for expenses while you build your business. While you are building your reputation, you may need to pay food service providers upon delivery. Don't forget to budget for advertising, insurance and payroll expenses. This represents just a small list of expenses you can expect.

While starting, owning, and operating a restaurant is a difficult task, do not give up hope. Chances are you can’t drive 10 miles in any direction of your home without running into a successful, privately owned restaurant. If you do the work, your dream of running a successful restaurant can come true. That's a "wrap!"
