New Top Twelve Resolutions For A Balanced Life For 2007!
By Andrew L. Botieri

For the past several years my January newsletter challenged you to incorporate new directions or new resolutions for you to enjoy a happier, balanced life…and this year will be no different, except this year. I’ve added ten new resolutions for you. Yes, I know who ever follows through on their New Year’s resolution promises? However, these are different and you don’t even have to exercise or diet to make these resolutions work for you and your multi-housing sales & service teams.

Remember, New Year resolutions are not about immediate change, but they’re about building upon a foundation. And if it doesn’t become fun or a passion, the excitement will fade. Instead of creating a New Year’s resolution, try creating a twelve month resolution. If we set “life” resolutions ahead of us, we look at them as a work in progress, not a once a year do or die proposition. These resolutions will help you in your continued success…helping to propel your multi-housing organization into 2007 and beyond. Please consider these thoughts:

  1. First, sit back and review 2006. How did you do both personally and professionally? How did your team do? What goals had you set for yourself and your team? If you achieved them did you reward yourself and your team? You should.
  2. As always, take out your 2007 day-timer and write in all of your personal time, vacations and scheduled days off. Once this is completed then wrap your business life around your personal life. Don’t forget to schedule your children’s events as well. Many of us forget to schedule our personal life.
  3. Please sit down this month with your sales & service teams to set individual/team goals. Put these in writing and post your team goals in the back room. Review these goals quarterly with your team to help guide them to success.
  4. No matter what your position be a “coach and teacher”, not a manager. Continue to help nurture and grow all those around you.
  5. Hold yourself accountable for everything you do…others will follow.
  6. Strive to eat more healthy each and everyday. The best plan is everything in moderation.
  7. Incorporate exercise into your day, whether it’s a gym workout, walking or yoga. Any form of exercise helps to reduce stress.
  8. Strive to learn something new each and everyday. “When you’re green you grow, when you’re ripe you’re rotten!”
  9. Remember to always lead by example, no matter what your position is.
  10. The most important gift someone working for you is looking for is “recognition”.
  11. Adhere to the mindset “work to live, not live to work”.
  12. Remember to try to be a better person each and everyday.
These resolutions are important ingredients for creating balance in your life at home and at work. Now, your challenge is to make a commitment to yourself and your team for a better life in 2007. Your life is defined by the choices you make each and everyday…what will you choose? Have a rockin’ 2007…on purpose!!
